Bhojpuri (Hkkstiqjh) is an Indo-Aryan language family spoken mainly in Bihar, Bhojpuri region of North India, eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Nepal. Bhojpuri is also spoken widely in US, Brazil, Suriname, Trinidad, Tobago, Guyana Fiji, and Mauritius. In Mauritius, a dialect of Bhojpuri keeps on being used in politics and government, and it is locally spelled Bojpury.

Bhojpuri is similar to Awadhi, Braj Bhasha, and Hindi; but quite different from other Bihari languages like Magahi and Maithili. As stated by the 2001 census, the number of Bhojpuri speakers in India is 33 million; however some individuals estimate the number to be 150 million in India, and a further 6 million somewhere else.

From sixteenth century until the mid-twentieth century Bhojuri was composed with the Kaithi script, and additionally with the Perso-Arabic script. The Kaithi script is still used to a constrained extent today, however Devanāgarī is more regular and has been utilized as a part of official documents since 1894. The Bhojpuri sound system contains 34 consonant phonemes.
